ORTECH understands odours.  We have been offering assessment services for over 40 years. We have the ability to understand and source odours in some of the most odourous industries in Canada, like compost facilities, landfills, rendering plants and food manufacturers. Carbon Air Filters

Carbon filters use activated carbon to remove contaminants and impurities, by chemical adsorption.  Activated carbon ( activated charcoal or activated coal) is where carbon that has been treated to make it very permeable. This large surface area is where the absorption happens.

Properties of Activated Carbon Include:

  • Absorb most vapour contaminants
  • Absorb organic molecules and solvents
  • Absorb multiple chemicals, simultaneously
  • Work under varying degrees of humidity and temperatures
  • Adsorbs odours and chemicals preferentially to moisture. It is a humectant and will adsorb compounds by releasing moisture

 

Carbon Scrubbers and Absorbers

This solution uses for scrubbers to absorb carbon. This odour control system is mainly used in industrial plants to treat dangerous gasses from emitting into the air. Uses of carbon scrubber used in airtight chambers.

Chemical Scrubbers

This type of odour control system is used for terminating Hydrogen Supplied and Ammonia from the air. This solution is useful in treating and removing hazardous chemical particles from the air.

Benefits of Using Chemical Scrubbers:

  1. Treat harmful gasses as well as dangerous air particle
  2. Required small space to be installed
  3. Ability to neutralize toxic gasses

Odour Neutralizers

Odour neutralizers have a wide range of solutions. These can be as simple as an air freshener in your car, which just cover up the smell, without removing it. A better, more efficient solutions is gels and oils, which drift into the air and bind with the odourous compounds.

 

Ozone Generators

Somewhat controversial, Ozone generators work by breaking down the molecules, bacteria, and spores that create odourous compounds.  Ozone (O3) is a highly volatile molecule and reacts quickly with particles that it comes into contact with the air.  The additional oxygen atom in the ozone binds itself to other molecules, chemically altering their makeup to generate  non-offensive molecules – eliminating the odour

 

Biological Scrubbers

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) has a rotten egg smell.  Biological Scrubbers can be used to treat this odourous compound.  Biological Scrubbers treat vaporous pollutants in an airstream by passing through microorganisms that consume the gaseous molecules like H2S, effectively removing them from the airstream.
